Managing the Summer Slam: Turning Downtime Into On-Time School Openings

For K–12 schools, summer is the most critical and compressed window for capital improvements.

For San Rafael City Schools, voter-approved Bond Measures A and B has funded more than $269 million in campus upgrades. With tight construction schedules and zero room for delay, spaces had to be fully cleared, assets protected, and campuses ready for students and staff when school resumed.

That’s where Visions Management came in.

By treating asset management as a prerequisite not an afterthought, Visions helped:

  • Unlock construction schedules through detailed pre-move planning

  • Inventory tracking

  • Classroom and library relocations

  • Tightly coordinated move execution

Our work ensured construction could proceed without delays and that spaces were re-occupied accurately and on time.

From classrooms and libraries to irreplaceable historic school banners dating back to the 1920s, every asset was carefully inventoried, protected, and returned with precision. Prior to  spaces coming back online Visions also supported FF&E planning and installation oversight across multiple campuses to ensure readiness for day one.  Assets were tracked for reuse, excess furniture was donated where appropriate, and landfill waste was reduced.

Beyond logistics, Visions supported RFP development, vendor evaluation, and contract awards, enabling the district to responsibly steward public funds.

The Result: classrooms, libraries, gymnasiums and administrative offices reopened fully prepared, construction stayed on schedule, and district teams remained focused on education not logistics.

When summer is the only window, success depends on what happens before move day. That’s where Visions Management delivers.
